Ex-minister denies spending ‘avalanche’

Former Minister of the Interior and Justice Fabio Valencia Cossio denies allegations that he signed an “avalanche” of new contracts immediately before leaving power, El Espectator reported Friday.

Current Interior and Justice Minister German Vergas Lleras expressed his annoyance with Valencia this week. The Uribe administration allegedly signed COP3 billion worth of contracts in their last week in power and the Ministry of the Interior was the biggest spender.

Valencia defended himself, declaring that the contracts that were signed during his last week in office went ahead with “cleanliness, efficiency, and austerity.”

The former minister emphasized that all contracts were checked by the Comptroller General’s Office.
