Five legends form Colombian football elite

Colombia celebrates the 60th anniversary of the nation’s professional
football league. To do so, five players were chosen as the country’s
best players ever. And looking at the names, some good choices were
made.

No surprise, the list is spearheaded by ‘El Pibe’ Carlos Valderrama. Although there is no official number one spot, there is no doubt about Valderrama’s status as a living football legend. And he is not the only player from the generation that showed the world what Colombian football is really about, as Faustino Asprilla earned himself a spot on the list as well.

Another member of Colombia’s elite is Efraín Sánchez. Born in 1927, the ‘Caiman’ spent most of his career at Millonarios and helped the team win several national championships.

The list of five is completed by the legendary Willington Ortíz and the recently retired Víctor Hugo Aristizábal, the former Nacional player that holds the record of most goals scored in the league’s history.
