Father accused of sexually abusing 11 daughters, having children with 3

A man from the central Colombia has been arrested for sexually abusing his 11 daughters, three of whom now have children by him as a result, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office.

There are three criminal investigations against the 62-year-old man in the central Colombian village of Flores Blancas, Santander who had allegedly been raping his daughters between 2002 and 2005, a prosecutor told press.

This horrifying story was revealed as just one of some 1,800 arrest warrants recently issued by Deputy Prosecutor General Jorge Fernando Perdomo for sexual abuse. Of those, some 300 offenders have been detained, reported newspaper El Pais.

“The country cannot be thinking about a peace process and at the same time be ignoring what is happening to the children of Colombia,” said prosecutor Perdomo.

A staggering 70% of the warrants released by the Prosecutor General’s office were for abuses against minors. Perdomo called on society to recognize the severity of these cases, as they have led to some 67,000 victims.

“This offensive can be achieved after we prioritize cases not as individual events but as part of a criminal investigation to understand the phenomenon that is behind the crimes against children,” said Perdomo.

Other notable arrests include two men of the Department of Boyaca who sexually abused a disabled girl who was reportedly less than 14 years old, and the alleged murderer of 17 year old Dahiana Lizeth Castillo.

The army, CTI, and police are reportedly all collaborating in an effort to control the crisis of sexual abuse against minors.

There was over 11,000 reports of sexual violence against minors in the first three months of 2015, compared with the estimated 50,000 from last year.
