A soldier captured by Colombia’s largest rebel group, the FARC, was released to his indigenous people on Thursday, local media reported. The FARC’s 6th Front allegedly captured soldier Miguel Angel Gonzales on Tuesday at the indigenous reservation Mosoco in the department of Cauca where the soldiers is from.

The Mosoco indigenous reservation appealed humanitarian officials of the Ombudsman’s Office to facilitate the soldier’s liberation.

The liberation took part successfully and the captured soldier was released and handed over to Ombudsman’s representative, Maruricio Redondo.

“After receiving the soldier, the Ombudsman’s humanitarian mission transported the soldier in good health condition to the 29th Brigade of the National Army in Popayan,” Redondo confirmed to RCN Radio.

The FARC is currently engaged in peace talks with the Colombian government in Cuba aimed at ending the 50 year conflict but no ceasefire has been put in place.
