FARC release more hostage videos

Colombia’s largest rebel group the FARC Monday released proof of life videos and letters of six policemen and three soldiers, local media reported.

The FARC provided proofs of life of Luis Herlindo Mendieta, Enrique Murillo Sanchez, William Donato, Arbey Delgado, Edgar Yesid Duarte, Elkin Hernandez, Luis Alberto Erazo, Alvaro Moreno and Jose Martinez, the president of Asfamipaz, Marleny Orjuela, revealed.

Senator Piedad Cordoba, who had received the material from the guerrillas, met with the families of the hostages privately to show the proofs of life. Venezuela-based news network Telesur broadcast the videos after the families were informed.

The FARC hold little over twenty members of the security forces hostage, the rebels want to trade for some 500 jailed guerrillas. The FARC is also suspected of having several hundred civilians hostage for extortion purposes.
