The Colombian Army has discovered a cache of 78 landmines belonging to FARC’s Southern Bloc packed into cans of tuna and sardines, Colombian newspaper El Espectador reported on Friday.
According to the army’s official report, the explosives – comprising ammonium nitrate, schrapnel and glass – were ready to be deployed to guerrillas in FARC’s 32nd Squadron, in the southwestern department of Putamaya.
The army’s Explosives and Demolitions Group (EXDE) made the discovery during a counter-insurgency operation in Putamaya, and destroyed the weapons in a controlled manner.
