FARC kidnap family in east Colombia

Members of Colombia’s largest rebel group FARC kidnapped five people, of which four belong to one family, authorities said Tuesday.

The incident took place outside the town of Tame in the eastern Arauca department.

According to Arauca police commander William Arcos Perez, ” an engineer, his wife, his daughter, his cousin and his maid” were kidnapped.

The authorities offer a $25 thousand reward for information that leads to the return of the hostages.

The Marxist FARC is internationally known for kidnapping politicians and members of the security forces they hope to swap for guerrillas kept in Colombian and American prisons, but are also frequently accused of kidnapping civilians for extortion purposes.
