After tense negotiations Thursday, the Red Cross transported to safety Friday the two policemen held hostage by the FARC since January 25.
Piedad Cordoba expressed her thanks to the leaders of the largest left-wing guerrilla group in Colombia, reported Semana.
The liberated policemen were immediately attended by medical personnel.
The release had been delayed due to large groups of journalists in the vicinity of the drop-off point according to leader of Colombians for Peace (CCP) Piedad Cordoba, reported El Espectador.
Following the successful completion of this first phase of the operation the humanitarian mission will reportedly fly to Pasto to secure the release of a soldier captured by the FARC on 31 January during clashes in the southern Nariño department.
