‘FARC attack’ damages Cerrejon coal railroad

An explosives attack damaged the railroad connecting the northern Colombian coalmine of multinational Cerrejon to the Caribbean coast Thursday. Authorities have blamed the FARC for the attack.

A wagon and the rails of the railroad were damaged when a bomb went off near the village of Remedios.

Local authorities blame the FARC’s 59th Front for the attack.

According to Cerrejon, the explosion “did not cause derailment, but did [cause] damage to one of the wagons.” The bomb allegedly blew a three-feet wide and one-foot deep hole.

The attack was the second one this month; a similar explosives attack hampered the transport of coal on August 8.
