Colombian prosecutors requested that international police organization Interpol detain a Colombian citizen in Switzerland, who they accuse of being the FARC’s ambassador to the country.
The suspect, Omar Arturo Zabala, has been living in Switzerland as a political refugee since the 1990s, and is accused by Colombian authorities of arms trafficking and financing the FARC.
The prosecutors base their case on e-mails they say were found on computers owned by slain FARC commander “Raul Reyes,” who was killed in March 2008, and whose e-mail correspondence has led to the prosecution of a number of suspected FARC aides.
Interpol was asked to issue a “red notice” for Zabala, who is allegedly known within the FARC as “Lucas Gualdron.” If Interpol grants the request, Swiss agents will detain the suspect so that Colombia can start an extradition procedure.
