Ecuador’s Foreign Minister denounces US bases as threat

The Ecuadorean Foreign Minister on Friday stated that the presence of North American troops in Colombian territory was not contributing to stability in the region.

The minister, Fander Falconi, further stated that Ecuador would reject the presence of foreign military bases in its territory and that it also rejected those established outside its frontiers, reported new station W Radio Friday.

Falconi also called for the reinstating of Honduran President Manuel Zelaya, who was deposed earlier this year in a military coup, and stressed that the international community considered the most recent elections in Honduras to be a joke.
