Danish man escapes kidnappers

A Danish citizen who was kidnapped almost two weeks ago in Barranquilla, escaped his captors Sunday, authorities say.

According to Colombia’s secret service DAS, the Dane Olvi Valtieri Sardi escaped when his guards weren’t paying attention.

After his escape, Valtieri made contact with authorities in the village of Luruaco, in the north Colombia department Atlántico.

The kidnappers had demanded a 500 thousand euro (US$661 thousand) for his release.

The Dane is in good health, authorities say. The kidnapping is under investigation and the police are looking for the kidnappers.

The kidnapping was never reported and there are no current reports of other foreigners being held for ransom in Colombia.
