Danish FARC financiers receive money from political party

A Danish clothing company convicted for financing Colombian rebel group FARC will receive money from the leftist Danish Enhedslisten (EL) party, its members ruled.

The money is meant to compensate the company Fighters+Lovers’ legal costs made in 2008 and 2009 when they were on trial for selling FARC t-shirts with the aim to donate part of the profit to a FARC radio station and a Palestinian Liberation Front print shop.

The Supreme Court convicted the company and employees to suspended sentences of between 60 days and six months.

The leadership of Enhedslisten urged its members to vote against the $2,000 financial support for the company, claiming that many people will perceive this as that EL also supports the FARC and PLF, parliamentarian Lisa Barfod told at a member meeting.

According to Danish newspaper Berlingske, several party members voiced that people are able to see the difference between supporting the FARC and supporting Fighters+Lovers. A vast majority of the party members voted in favor of helping Fighters+Lovers.
