Court needs more time for gay adoption ruling

Colombia’s Constitutional Court announced Tuesday that it needs more time to rule on the legality of same-sex couples adopting children.

The court was asked to study the case of a lesbian couple who want one partner to be recognized as the legal guardian of the other’s child.

According to Constitutional Court President Juan Carlos Henao, several magistrates have asked for more time to study the case.

The court also wants to prioritize emergency measures to deal with heavy rains, the court president added.
