Congresswoman sentenced to 6 years in prison for paramilitary ties

Colombia’s Supreme Court sentenced former coalition lawmaker Karelly
Lara Vence to six years imprisonment after it found proven she had ties
to paramilitary warlord ‘Jorge 40’.

Lara Vence was House Representative for the north Colombian Magdalena department and member of coalition party Cambio Radical.

The Representative was found guilty of conspiring to commit a crime with ‘Jorge 40’, who according to the court was a close friend of the lawmaker.

The lawmaker will have to be arrested for the second time because she was released from custody in March following a judge ruling the Prosecution was taking too long to indict her.
