Colombia’s stock market to extend trading hours in 2011

Colombia’s main stock market said Monday it will extend its trading sessions by three hours in the new year to coincide with New York’s closing bell.

Starting Jan. 3, trading on the Colombian Stock Exchange will end at 4PM local time rather than its current close at 1PM, the stock market said on its website. Colombia’s opening bell will remain at 9AM local time.

The closing time for Colombian stock market trading is expected to be adjusted in March as Colombia, unlike the state of New York, does not change its clocks for daylight savings.

Officials say the move to match New York’s closing bell is aimed at bringing Colombia’s stock market in line with international standards as it integrates with stock markets in Peru and Chile. (Dan Molinski / Dow Jones Newswires)
