Colombia’s Foreign Minister to discuss San Andres ruling with UN Secretary General

Colombia’s Foreign Minister will meet with the UN Secretary General to discuss the ramifications of the International Court of Justice’s [ICJ] San Andres ruling.

Following Colombia’s rejection of the recent ruling International Court of Justice [ICJ] ruling that awarded a large portion of the waters surrounding the archipelago of San Andres to Nicaragua, Colombia’s Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin will meet with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, according to local media.

“The ICJ decision separated the 80,000 inhabitants of the archipelago of San Andres from the sources of their sustenance, which fishermen have used for centuries,” Colombia’s Foreign Ministry stated.

President Juan Manuel Santos claimed the Hague’s ruling was made on the basis of “errors, omissions, inconsistencies and loopholes.”

Colombia still intends to challenge the ruling, but in the meantime, it has rejected the authority of the ICJ by denouncing the Pact of Bogota.
