Central bank ressurrects Colombia’s art history

Colombia’s central bank opened the doors on Thursday to a new extensive art exhibition to showcase six centuries of Colombian art history.

The central bank said that “the new exhibition encourages a dialogue between Colombian and international art” and that by placing art from different moments in history in the same room, they hope “to establish various thematic and aesthetic relationships” between the pieces.

The installations themselves range from the 15th century right up to the present day and will come from a range including Colombian, Latin American and international backgrounds .

According to local media, it has taken three years to assemble the exhibition and was achieved by the combined efforts of some of Colombia’s most celebrated art curators, including Jaime Borja, Beatriz Gonzalez, Alvaro Medina, Carmen María Jaramillo, and Sylvia Suarez.

Admission will be free with the collection open to visitors from 9:00am – 7:00pm Monday to Friday and 9:00am – 4:00pm on the weekend. It will be closed on Tuesdays for maintenance.
