Colombians trade a record 1.72 billion greenbacks in one day

A record US$1.72 billion in dollar transactions were made in the
Colombian foreign exhange market Monday as news broke of the U.S.
government buyout of mortgage giants Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.

Traders’ initial reactions to the news dropped the dollar to under
2,000 pesos, but at the close of the market, buoyed by its strong
worldwide performance, the dollar was at 2,069.
