Colombian song becomes ‘schlager’ hit in Europe (video)

A German translation of a song made famous by Colombian artist Fonseca finds great success in Germany, Austria, and Denmark.

The Austrian “schlager” singer Hansi Hinterseer has successfully brought Fonseca’s famous song “Arroyito” to Europe with his German interpretation titled “So Sehr Liebe Ich Dich.”

“Arroyito” or “stream” in Spanish, is a Colombian classic originally written by one of Colombia’s most famous vallenato composers Wilfran Castillo.

In the video, Hinterseer sings the vallenato-turned schlager ballad alongside a mountainous stream, accompanied by an accordion player. The song has received mixed reviews from the public but has been embraced by Fonseca himself who posted Hinterseer’s video on his Facebook page and exclaimed “Wifran Castillo, look where this little river has gone!” on his Twitter account.
