The Colombian Navy arrested four Costa Ricans carrying 81 bags of cocaine on a lobster ship sailing in the Caribbean Sea, heading towards Central America.
The boat was spotted by helicopter and captured Saturday night in the Colombian archipelago that includes the islands of San Andres, Santa Catalina and Providencia, located just 93 miles from the Nicaraguan coast and 373 miles from Colombia’s coastline.
According to the reports, troops approached the ship after forcing it to stop with warning shots from a patrol plane.
The four foreigners and their product were transferred to San Andres and await trial. So far this year, the Colombian Navy has seized 45 tons of cocaine and about four tons of marijuana.
Colombia has controlled the archipelago, which includes the islands of San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina, since the 1928 Esguerra-Barcenas Treaty. Nicaragua
