Colombian comedian ‘receives threats’ for fat jokes

A Colombian journalist claims via Twitter comedian and model Alejandra Azcarate received threats for making fun of overweight women in her weekly magazine column.

Director of adult magazine SoHo and columnist of newspaper Semana, Daniel Samper Ospina, tweeted Wednesday evening: “I know that they threaten @LaAzcarate, that they want to throw acid in her face and blind her: I express my solidarity with her.”

Azcarate was criticized widely for her article “7 advantages of being fat” published in the Alo magazine in the beginning of July, where she ridiculed overweight women.

Although the column was meant to be a joke, women all over Colombia expressed their outrage on social media, saying the article was offensive and irresponsible.

According to Ospina, criticism against Azcarate has now turned ugly with some offended readers expressing their desires to disfigure the comedian’s face.
