Bogota bus explosion leaves 2 dead, 6 injured

The Colombian government is offering an $18,000 dollar reward to find those responsible for a bus explosion that killed two and left six wounded in Usme, according to the governor of Cundinamarca department.

The explosion happened at 8:30AM, as the bus headed towards the entrance of an access tunnel in Yomasa, Usme that accesses the road to Villavicencio, the capital of Meta department.

A woman aged between 25-30 years old, died instantly, while her four-year-old son died later after being transported to Cami de Santa Librada Hospital in Usme. The six wounded were sent to Meissen, Tunal, and Kennedy Hospitals.

The governor Andres Gonzalez announced authorities are investigating the incident to identify its motive and determine if it is related to activities prompted by illegal armed groups.

The Expreso Bolivariano bus company’s operating director Juan Carlos Calderon said that the tragic explosion was caused by an explosive device in the carry-on baggage compartment located inside of the bus. Authorities continue to investigate the causes of the explosion, and the roadway remains closed due to the damage, reported Radio Santa Fe Sunday.
