Colombia will rotate foreign ambassadors: Foreign Minister

Colombian foreign affairs minister Angela Holguin has confirmed that there will be ambassadorial changes made to a number of embassies,Colombian radio station W Radio reported Tuesday.

Holguin announced that the current ambassador to Canada, Clemencia Forero Ucros, will be reassigned to the Colombian embassy in Australia in 2013, replacing  the current ambassador to Australia, Diego Betancur.

The foreign minister used the announcement as an opportunity to emphasise the importance of the partnership that is developing between Colombian and Australian governments, which includes Colombia seeking an FTA agreement between the two countries.

At this time there are no plans to make any ambassadorial changes to the Venezuelan or Nicaraguan embassies, nor to the United Nations, said Holguin.

The new Colombian ambassador to Canada has yet to be named.
