Colombian rapper murdered in Medellin

Colombian hip hop star Alejandro Serna, known in the rap world as Alejandro Muletaz, was shot and killed by armed men in Medellin Tuesday, reported local media.

The rapper has been a prominent figure in Medellin’s hip hop scene for over 10 years and was an avid promoter of music in the city.

Two men accompanying Serna were also injured in the incident, which took place near the Santa Lucia subway station.

Police have not determined a motive for the killing and continue to search for the gunmen.

Several rappers were killed in Colombia’s second-largest city in 2011 during a rash of violence that was mainly concentrated in the notorious Comuna 13 neighborhood, prompting a march organized to denounce the rise in violence against young hip hop artists.
