Colombia Ministry of Labor condemns threats to president of National Workers Confederation

The Ministry of Labour issued a statement on Thursday rejecting and condemning ongoing threats against Julio Roberto Gomez, presidents of the National Confederation of Workers (CGT).

The communication declared that “situations like this undermine the right of union officials to exercise their function and seriously injure the rights of association for workers to seek improvements in their quality of life, and the promotion of trust between the state and workers.

The Ministry went on to express solidarity with Julio Roberto Gomez, a democrat and fighter for the rights of workers, the CGT, and the other union leaders in the Colombia.

“We ask the competent authorities to take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of the president of the CGT,” concluded the statement.
