Colombia lose first Davis Cup point

Colombia have lost the first point in their Davis Cup match up against Ecuador, after Robert Farah was defeated by Julio Cesar Campozano Friday.

Colombia’s top ranked player Alejandro Falla [60] was originally due to play, however an ankle injury forced Farah [235] to step in.

Despite being 171 places above Campozano [406] in the rankings, the Colombian still succumbed to a straight sets defeat [7-6(4), 6-4, 6-2], in Salinas, Ecuador.

The next game will see Colombia’s second ranked player Santiago Giraldo [67] come up against Ivan Endarra [551].

Colombia [28] currently lay four places below Ecuador [24] in the Davis Cup Nations Rankings.

The overall winner of the match-up will go through to face Brazil [23] in the second round of Americas Group 1.
