Colombia sees almost 45,000 malaria cases a year

In one year 44,797 cases of malaria have been reported in Colombia but there is not an epidemic according to the general director of public health, reported Caracol Radio.

According to Lenis Enrique Urquijo, the general director of public health, this has not been an epidemic year despite the high figure which was presented at the Strategic Committee of Events Related to the Rainy Season taking place Tuesday and Thursday.

In a report of vaccinations presented to the committee, it was indicated that the departments are Atlantico, Magdalena, and Bolivar, all on the Caribbean coast, are high priority for receiving vaccinations.

Seven cases of measles were also reported earlier in September in Barranquilla, the capital of Atlantico department.
