Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez celebrated the improving relations between his country and Colombia, in a press release Friday.
“Long live Colombia and the improved relations with Venezuela!,” Chavez said at the end of a statement coinciding with a security meeting between the countries’ two defense ministers.
Two high-profile Colombian drug trafficke were caught recently by Venezuelan authorities.
Former Colombian president Alvaro Uribe often accused Venezuela of harboring and even funding the FARC, Colombia’s largest rebel group. The two countries cut diplomatic ties several times and periods of extreme tension prompted international intervention. Relations seem to have normalized under Santos.
