A singer of the popular caribbean Champeta genre died Sunday, weeks after being the victim of an assassination attempt in the north of Colombia.
The 30-year old John Hairo Sayas, who performed under the make of “El Sayayin,” was critically injured on June 26 when armed men opened fire at him and friends while attending a bar in the northern city of Sincelejo.
The singer was one of the most famous performers of Champeta, a musical genre mostly popular on Colombia’s Caribbean coast.
