Champeta rhythms to take the stage in Cartagena

Colombia’s port Cartagena is set to host the 3rd Afro-Colombian Champeta Festival, dedicated to the music and dance originating from the walled city.

The festival will kick off on August 13 with a big opening concert on the Plaza de la Aduana feauturing a dozen champeta artists.

On August 15, Congolese singer Mbilia Bel will perform for the closing night.

The highly sensual champeta is one of the most popular music styles and dances in Cartagena and the surrounding Bolivar department.
