Cementos Argos ’09 net profit almost triples

Cementos Argos, Colombia’s largest cement company, said Tuesday its consolidated net profit in 2009 almost tripled to 210 billion Colombian pesos ($109 million) from the COP71 billion reported in 2008.

Cementos Argos and its subsidiaries own plants in the U.S., Panama, Haiti and the Dominican Republic, and it recently signed an agreement to start operating in Suriname.

Shares of Cementos Argos Tuesday traded unchanged at COP11,880, while the IGBC benchmark index rose 0.2%. (Inti Landauro / Dow Jones)
