Caterina Murino to play Ingrid Betancourt in kidnap film

Italian Bond girl Caterina Murino is to play the lead in a film depicting the kidnap of Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt by the FARC.

Caterina Murino, a 34-year-old Italian actress, was made famous as a Bond girl in “Casino Royale,” and has also starred in “The Garden of Eden”, as well as the BBC series “The Aurelio Zen Mysteries” and “XIII” from France’s Canal Plus.

The English-language film, titled “In Search of Ingrid”, is based on the books of Betancourt’s ex-husband Juan Carlos Lecompte; “Ingrid and I: A Bittersweet Liberty” and “Looking for Ingrid.”

The film will be directed by Betty Kaplan, a Unites States based Venezuelan director, who also wrote the screenplay.

Ingrid Betancourt spent six years being held in captivity by the FARC from 2002, until she was freed during Operation Jaque of the Colombian Armed Forces in July 2008.
