Google models Cartagena in 3D

Cartagena in 3D,” a project of the University of Bolivar, will represent the Colombian coastal city as a three-dimensional simulation on Google Maps and Google Earth.

The first step of mapping Cartagena in 3D is to model important buildings and popular tourist spots, according to Cartagena newspaper El Universal.

The next phase will include residential neighborhoods of the port city, so that the final result will present a complete view of the city on Google maps and Google Earth.

The process of creating a three-dimensional model of the city includes pictures from different angles and zoom levels to make the city appear as real as possible.

The project is a gift to Cartagena to mark 200 years of independence and is expected to be finished in four to five years.
