Carlos Vives and Peter Manjarres victorious at Latin Grammy Awards

Musicians Carlos Vives and Peter Manjarres were among several victorious Colombian artists to win awards at the Latin Grammys held in Las Vegas on Thursday.

Carlos Vives won the Latin Grammy award for Best Children’s Album with his production of ‘Pombo Musical’ which comprised of a mixture of musical renditions of poems by Colombia’s acclaimed poet Rafael Pombo.

Vives was quoted by Colombian media saying that the album had been greatly appeciated in Colombia and the proceeds from sales will go towards the Rafael Pombo Foundation which encourages reading and writing among the Colombian youth.

Manjarres came away from the ceremony with the award for Best Cumbia and Vallenato Album for his production of ‘El Caballero del Vallenato’.

Other winners included Colombian musician Jorge Villamizar with Best Tropical Song and the Puerto Rican urban sound invasion of Calle 13 who won two of the five awards for which they were nominated.
