Cali salsa fest to draw the crowds

Tourists are expected to flock to the streets of Cali this week as the city steps into the Festival of Salsa and Competitive Dance with floats in colorful parades which seek to establish the city as “the world capital of Afro-Colombian rhythm.”

The inaugural event, supported by the ministry of culture and tourism, will feature salsa, cha cha cha, samba, rumba, jive, paso doble, and slow foxtrot, and hopes to have these styles recognized as competitive dance steps in the vain of ballroom dancing.

The city of Cali, which is already famous for attracting visitors to its steamy salsa clubs, is putting on a variety of events, workshops, and contests for the festival.

Renowned national and international artists and performers will wow the crowds from 4 PM this Thursday.

Check out the festival page for more information.
