Cali police arrest 66 after America fans riot over relegation

Police in Cali have arrested 66 people after the relegation of soccer giant America caused riots in Colombia’s third largest city, local media reported.

The riots broke out both inside the stadium as in other parts of the city after America’s 3-4 loss against second division team Patriotas, who will be promoted to the first division of Colombia’s Liga Postobon.

Twelve people were injured in the riots.

America de Cali is officially Colombia’s best-performing team ever, but will play in the country’s second division after losing in the two-legged play-offs against Patriotas, a team from the small town of Tunja.
