British cruise lands in Santa Marta

British cruise company Thompson Dream Cruises docked in Colombia’s caribbean city ofSanta Marta yesterday, marking the first of four landfalls Thompson will make in Santa Marta this season, reported newspaper El Informador.

This is the first time Thompson has made landfall in Santa Marta. Mayor Juan Pablo Diaz Granados Pinedo said, “We are delighted because it is a new line that comes to our city.” The mayor said that he hopes to win new cruise contracts in the comming year.

New cruise lines are a welcome boon in Colombia’s Caribbean coast as this year’s rainy season has slowed down tourism and some cruise companies are sending smaller ships to Colombia than in previous years.

Pinedo personally welcomed the passengers on Thompson’s ship. The ship is carrying 1,400 tourists and is departing Cartagena at 4:00PM on Wednesday.
