Colombia’s internationally-renowned IberoAmerican Festival of Theater (FITB) kicks off March 23 in Bogota.
The FITB is a bi-annual event that showcases and celebrates all genres of the performing arts, including circus, cabaret, musicals, live bands, dance pieces, reenactments of the classics, and talks by renowned directors, innovative young people, and international stars.
With a new and exciting program filled with some of the world’s most risky and exciting performing artists, the 13th FITB festival will focus on fostering young and local talent. Director of Special Events Natalio Helo told told local media that “Colombian artists will be in charge of the closing ceremony at the Simon Bolivar Park” and that “we are fostering business partnerships that will benefit our young artists. This is “definitely not a party to miss,” said Helo.

Performers and artists from all around the world have performed at the FITB since the event was launched as part of Bogota’s 450th anniversary celebrations in 1988. Romania is this year’s guest country because of an “interest in the central European theater (especially in those countries that had a strong Communist influence) and its artistic evolution under that great cultural influence.”
Colombia’s capital will be transformed during the festival. “The halls, parks, streets, next to the Plaza de Toros, the El Campin Coliseum, the Palace of Deportes and Corferias, and the City Theater, will be filled with parties, joy, and color to celebrate “La party of a thousand faces,” according to the FITB website.
This 2012 FITB will take place from March 23 to April 8 in multiple locations throughout Bogota. For more information visit the festival’s website.
