Barranquilla carnival kicks off (photos)

The Barranquilla carnival, one of Colombia’s most important cultural events, kicked off Saturday with the extravagant Battle of the Flowers.

Apart from local carnival groups, some of Colombia’s most famous actresses and models took part in the parade that was witnessed by hundreds of thousands of onlookers.

The carnival, in its entirety dedicated to the late salsa singer Joe Arroyo will last until Tuesday.
