Barranquilla Carnival goes to China

Two Colombian performance groups brought the color and rhythm of
Barranquilla Carnival to China. They are there to perform in the ‘Meet
in Beijing’ festival.

The Monica Lindo Dance Company and Los Chamanes musical group are the lucky performance troupes that are representing Colombia at the festival.

Monica Lindo, director of the dance company said that it was a unique experience but “we can identify a lot [with the Chinese] because there is so much color, richness and variety here”.

The director said the Colombian performances are very well received by the Chinese.

This is the second year that they will perform in the festival.

The festival, which gathers together performance groups from all over the world, is held every year in May.

The Carnival performance, brought to China by the Barranquilla Cultural Corporation, will also travel to the Chinese cities of Chengdu, Shanghai and Lianyungan.

The tour of china is the 21st tour sponsored by the Barranquilla Cultural Corporation, which has brought the Barranquilla Carnival performance groups to Spain, Portugal, Germany, Japan, Israel, Lebanon, Peru and Mexico in the past.
