Avianca joins Star Alliance

Colombian airline Avianca and Panama’s Copa Airlines announced Wednesday that they have joined the Star Alliance, a network of airlines that cooperate in order to provide easier travel bookings and quicker connections for their customers.

“The addition of these two quality airline groups concludes a strategic process which increases the Alliance’s footprint in the vibrant, growing economies of Latin America,” Jaan Albrecht, CEO of Star Alliance, said in a press release. “The aviation landscape in this region is changing rapidly and alliances are playing an ever bigger role as Latin America continues to develop.”

Avianca and Copa Airlines bring 46 new destinations to the Star Alliance network. Star Alliance customers in South America will have access to Star Alliance’s extensive network of global flights.

Avianca recently signed cooperative deal with Lufthansa.
