Authorities offer US$96,000 for information on El Bagre attack

Colombian Police say the FARC is behind the explosions in the north
Antioquia village of El Bagre that injured nine. Authorities offer 200 million
pesos (US$96 thousand) for information leading to those responsible for
the attack.

Initial reports were unclear about the cause of the several explosions that hit the village, but after investigation the police says guerrillas fired mortar grenades of which one destroyed the homeof a family and injuring those inside. Among the injured are four minors, one of them is in critical condition.

“One of the mortars hit the house of the Perez family, destroying it completely, a second one hit the neighboring home and a third one hit where military personnel were, without injuring any of the uniformed,” deputy commander of Antioquia Police, Hector Cruz, told newspaper El Espectador.

The area around El Bagre is important for Colombian drug trafficking. Earlier reports by Police say the area has a high presence of members of paramilitary drug gangs.
