Army to investigate crossfire death of child

Colombian Defense Minister Rodrigo Rivera said that the military has launched an internal investigation into the death of a 5-year-old boy killed in crossfire between the Colombian army and guerrillas, reports El Espectador.

The boy was killed by a stray bullet during a battle between Colombian soldiers and the FARC’s 62nd Front in the jungles of La Macarena in Meta department.

Rivera said that the investigation would determine the circumstances under which the battle between the army’s elite Omega joint task force and the guerrillas broke out last Friday.

The minister regretted the tragedy, and sent his condolences to the family of the young victim.
