Armed group attack police station with grenades in southwest Colombia

An armed group attacked a police station in southwest Colombia with grenades and rifle fire in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Colombian media reported.

The assault on the the police station in the municipality of La Florida, in the department of Nariño, took place at 1:30AM, and lasted seven minutes. The police station building suffered damage, as did the city hall and some homes.

Governor of the department Antonio Navarro Wolff told Caracol Radio “they made some shots with a rifle, threw three grenades and fled.”

The attack in La Florida, situated 13 miles from the departmental capital Pasto, was “the closest attack to the city in two years,” said Navarro Wolff. Soldiers present in the area are trying to identify the armed group.
