América extend lead while Cali crash at Pereira

América de Cali extended their lead in the Colombian Copa Mustang II
semi final stage with a 2-0 win over Junior, while Deportivo Pereira
beat Deportivo Cali 3-1 to move into second place.

The action began in Cali where América was simply too strong for Junior Barranquilla. Parra found his way into the penalty area to score the opener at 21 minutes and Ramos netted a second on the hour mark.

Where Cali beat Pereira 3-1 last week, Pereira were now on the right side of the scoreline after ninety minutes.

Man of the match was undoubtedly Carlos Quintero, who scored all of the three home goals. His first, at 20 minutes, was canceled out by Carillo in the 51st but Quintero converted a (controversial) penalty to restore the lead at minute 70.

The third and final goal came eight minutes later, when a diagonal shot from about ten meters left the keeper stranded.

América remain in first place with eight points from four games. Deportivo Pereira now follow at two points, while Cali and Junior have four points each and aren’t very likely to make it to the final.
