93 arrested in massive Cucuta raid

Police in the eastern Colombian city of Cucuta arrested more than 93 suspected gang members in an attempt to stop a recent wave of violence, newspaper El Espectador reported on Saturday.

According to the newspaper, more than 1,000 policemen took part in the massive operation that also resulted in the seizure of more than 100 firearms.

The massive police operation follows days of a wave of violence, especially in the north east of the city.

Cucuta, bordering Venezuela, is the most important city for trade with the neighboring country.
