8,200 Colombians affected by La Niña

Colombia’s National Disaster Management Agency said 8,200 Colombians have been affected by heavy rains brought on by the weather phenomena know as La Niña, in a report by the agency Sunday.

According to the report 19 Colombian departments have suffered heavy rains and flooding. 1,287 families have been affected and 5 people have died.

The report said the agency would, “continue with clean up efforts, debris removal, damage evaluations, and needs analysis studies for affected families.”

La Niña is the less-talked-about counterpart of the “El Niño” weather phenomenon, which generally results in heavy rains in Colombia.
