The government hopes that with the decree more of the leftist guerrillas will be willing to demobilize and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) will be dealt a sensitive blow. Earlier President Álvaro Uribe announced that FARC rebel, responsible for the care of hostages, can receive a large payment and refuge in France if they desert and liberate the hostages under their care.Rebels who are willing to comply to the “Justice and Peace” law, must undergo a rehabilitation, strictly checked by the government, to prevent them from returning to their troops. A released rebel will also have to give information that can lead to the dismantling of the FARC’s military structure and publicly reject the rebelgroup.
