6 die in east Colombia bus accident

Six people died and another eight were injured in a traffic accident in the northeastern Colombian town of California, Santander on Thursday morning.

A local police official told Caracol Radio that the bus — driving workers to a local mine — fell at least 300 meters off a cliff, probably due to a mechanical failure.

The survivors were flown to a hospital in the department capital Bucaramanga for treatment.

Authorities have raised the number of dead to eight. Two passengers died in hospital.
